Volunteer Program The programs and services offered at Bissell Centre would not be possible without the dedication and energy of our many volunteers! In 2008, 1,600 people volunteered for more than 20,000 hours at Bissell Centre. We provide our volunteers with orientation and on-the-job training. If you are looking to spend some time giving back to your community, Bissell Centre has a number of options for you. Bissell Centre Board of Governors is currently seeking 3 new volunteer Governors to join our Board following the elections held at our Annual General Meeting on April 22, 2010. Family Support Services is looking for a volunteer to coordinate arts and crafts projects for the Parenting Group held each Monday. Click here for more details. Robert Tegler Friendship Room Volunteers assist with serving sandwiches, making coffee and distributing goods to adults in the Robert Tegler Friendship Room (Drop-In). Volunteers also spend social time with community members by playing cards and board games. Drop-In volunteers must be at least 18 years of age. Childcare Volunteers work within the Child and Family Resource Program, providing quality supervision and play alongside Bissell’s team of childcare professionals. The children in Bissell Centre childcare are newborns to 5-years of age. To learn more about this volunteer opportunity, click here. Food Service Volunteers help to organize donations, assist with meals in the Robert Tegler Friendship Room (Adult Drop-In) and Childcare, and help to prepare well-balanced meals for both the Women's Hot Lunch and Casual Labour programs and perform many other duties. In-Take Reception Volunteers greet Bissell Centre visitors and direct them to appropriate service program or department. To learn more about volunteering at Reception, click here. Administration Services Volunteers help with miscellaneous office tasks such as data entry, mailings, scanning and filing documents. Group Volunteers are welcome at Bissell Centre.
