Relying solely on donations, the Bissell Centre Thrift Shoppe is a social enterprise of Bissell Centre providing low income families and individuals a venue for purchasing high-quality products at very affordable prices.  Profits from sales at the Thrift Shoppe fund our free clothing outlet at our downtown location, which provides free clothing and footwear to low income families and individuals.

NOW OPEN! We are now accepting donations of clothing, linen, bedding, shoes, purses, back packs, small household items, knick-knacks, collectibles, and jewellery.

We have seen overwhelming support from people, organizations, and companies throughout the city who have donated clothing to help us rebuild after the devastating Thrift Shoppe fire. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the cause! Your help has provided much needed clothing to those who rely on Bissell Centre for assistance.

Community Closet

The Community Closet is a voucher-based system assisting low income families and individuals by providing them with free clothing and footwear. This program is operated solely by our volunteers, and is located at Intake/Reception in Bissell Centre’s East building. The Community Closet has proven to be very successful as low income families and individuals have their own place to ‘shop’ with dignity assisted by dedicated volunteers.  More than twenty Edmonton non-profit organizations are active participants in this program.

External agencies may refer clients to Bissell Centre’s intake workers in our Drop-in Centre for a voucher to access the Community Closet. Please refer clients to visit Bissell Centre’s Drop-in Centre during intake hours (Monday/Wednesday/Friday, 9 am – 3:30 pm) in our West building.

Items available include:

  • Seasonal clothing for men, women & children
  • Footwear and Socks
  • Jackets, Sweaters, Pants, Jeans, T-Shirts, Shorts, Belts
  • New Undergarments

All items are donated to Bissell Centre and inspected by staff. Restocking takes place in the Community Closet twice a week.
